Specialized Care for Individuals, Groups, Educators, and the BIPOC Community

I specialize in providing compassionate, honest, and solution-focused care to individuals, groups, educators, and the BIPOC community. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can feel seen and valued, address the challenges of oppressive systems, and find harmony in your personal and professional life. Together, we can navigate your unique journey towards healing and self-empowerment.

ABOUT ME

Helping Individuals, Groups, Educators and BIPOC Individuals Heal, Rebuild Self-Empowerment, and Find Harmony

Hi, I’m Renise Washington, a Licensed Master Social Worker originally from sunny San Diego, CA. Growing up, I experienced firsthand how oppressive systems impact families and the critical need for mental health advocacy. My father’s journey, particularly his inspiring efforts to share restorative practices within our community after his release from prison, deeply influenced my path. He poured his experiences and wisdom back into the community, demonstrating the power of restoration and resilience. This instilled in me the belief that true change begins with compassionate and honest restorative practices.

Staying true to my values, I’ve had the pleasure of working as a special educator, restorative practitioner, wellness specialist, employee relations specialist, and now, a licensed master of social work. Although these roles differ, what remains consistent is my deep and intentional support for people as they navigate their environments. Whether it’s addressing the challenges of self-care for educators, coping with the trauma of oppressive systems as a BIPOC individual, or simply needing assistance in processing emotions, my background as an educator and mental health professional equips me with a unique perspective to meet the diverse needs of my clients.

Renise's Journey Into The Mental Health Field

My academic journey began at Western New England University, where I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy in May 2013. I furthered my education by earning a Master of Arts in Special Education from the University of Saint Joseph in May 2016, during which I worked as a special educator in a therapeutic boarding school. Most recently, I graduated with a Master of Social Work from Sacred Heart University in May 2023.

In addition to my formal education, I have served as a health and wellness coach for educators, helping them find harmony between their professional and personal lives or supporting those considering a career change. My diverse professional background has equipped me to provide comprehensive support to individuals who have the power to change their circumstances but may need a reminder of their own strengths and potential.

MY APPROACH

What's It Like to Work With Me?

My approach is compassionate, honest, and solution-focused. I work with both individuals and groups, specializing in supporting BIPOC and educators. Having worked with a diverse population, I feel well-equipped to address a wide range of client needs. I am particularly passionate about destigmatizing mental health support for educators, especially those in the BIPOC community. Often, educators struggle to prioritize themselves, and it is considered admirable to always be “on.” For educators of color, there is the additional burden of dealing with microaggressions, racial trauma, and inequitable practices that can be deeply harmful.

Talking to a stranger about personal issues is challenging, so I strive to bring my authentic self to each session, combining humor, cultural competency, and trauma-focused care. Utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), I personalize my approach to meet the unique needs of each person I work with.

I believe therapy can take many forms and that there is no single script for wellness. If this is your first time seeking support, thank you for your bravery in starting this journey. If you are returning, welcome back, and thank you for continuing to prioritize your mental health. While we may not be able to control everything, we can control something—so let’s start there.
