ANXIETY THERAPY

Do Fear And Worry Overwhelm Your Sense Of Peace?

Have you been conditioned to believe that it’s not safe or appropriate to express yourself? Does a need to keep the peace prevent you from sharing your emotions or engaging in necessary conflict? Are you growing exhausted by a lack of balance and self-care in your life?

Anxiety is a feeling of worry, fear, or uneasiness that can occur without any clear reason. The body has a natural ability to respond to danger, but anxiety can cause these responses to happen when there is no apparent danger. Anxiety is a feeling of worry or unease about something that has yet to happen. It can be triggered by a specific event or situation, or it may be a general sense that something bad is about to happen. Anxiety is a normal human emotion; the problem arises when you experience anxiety too often, for no reason at all, or when you experience it in response to situations that don’t warrant such reactions.

Nevertheless, the possibility of emotional peace is within your reach. And therapeutic treatment with our team of counselors at Healing Springs Wellness Center can help you with overcoming anxiety.

SYMPTOMS

What Does Anxiety Feel Like?

If any of these symptoms of anxiety or panic attacks apply, it’s very possible that you’re experiencing a high degree of mental and physical burnout. You may wish you had more balance in your life, or that you were better at asserting your needs. And because your self-esteem has taken a hit, maintaining healthy relationships with both yourself and others is probably becoming increasingly difficult.

FACTS & FIGURES

Factors that Can Worsen Anxiety in Certain Populations

While anxiety and panic cause us to feel out of control and low in confidence, therapeutic methods have proven highly effective in treating occurrences of mental distress. Unfortunately, however, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America estimates that less than 40 percent of those suffering with anxiety seek treatment.

Many factors contribute to the development of anxiety and panic in individuals. An onset of symptoms can occur as early as adolescence, and if left untreated, anxiety and panic disorders can contribute to and coexist with other mental health issues, such as depression and substance abuse. About a quarter of individuals struggling with panic disorders turn to alcohol and other drugs to numb the distress caused by panic attacks and other symptoms of anxiety.

Women are generally twice as likely as men to develop panic disorders. Black women, in particular, develop more chronic and severe signs of anxiety when compared with their white peers. Statistically, black women are subjected to more traumatic and anxiety-inducing situations than other populations. Black women are often the “first one” or “only one” when it comes to certain educational and professional opportunities, resulting in a social anxiety that we are “representing the race and being watched more closely than [our] white counterparts.” This illusion, coupled with the “Strong Black Woman” archetype can cause us to repress our emotions and remain stoic at the expense of our mental and physical well-being.

The truth is that you can only begin to heal from anxiety and trauma by getting to the source of the issue, which is difficult and isolating to do alone. It takes great strength to seek counseling for anxiety, and our team of therapists is trained and ready to set you back onto a path of wellness.

OUR APPROACH

Holistic Therapeutic Treatment Can Give You Skills To Manage Anxiety For Life

At Healing Springs Wellness Center, we treat the whole person, meaning that our therapeutic models address the many ways in which physical and emotional symptoms may be manifesting or being stored in the body. Our holistic approach creates a safe, nurturing, and nonjudgmental space that will allow you to understand your anxiety while moving beyond your fears, unhelpful behaviors, and life stressors.

After reviewing your history, including a timeline of when you began experiencing symptoms of panic and anxiety, we’ll gain a deeper understanding of the source of your distress. As we begin to understand how anxiety and panic attacks are affecting your day-to-day life, we will personalize a treatment plan to fit your needs.

From there, we will use mindfulness strategies and other behavioral techniques to provide you with a toolkit for handling emotional distress and reframing negative thought patterns. Eventually, we will begin to target traumatic memories and use somatic methods to help desensitize the memory and install more positive associations and beliefs.

Our holistic approach draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and alternative healing methods, such as Expressive Arts and mindfulness stress reduction therapies, that offer real-life solutions to real-life consequences of anxiety. As you begin to make adjustments to your lifestyle to alleviate causes of stress in your life, you will transform into a more assertive and mindful version of yourself—one who feels safe to express your needs without fear.

When you’re out of alignment, you can feel out of control and tethered by negative feelings, yet these emotions clue you into unmet needs or a lack of balance in your life. When given an opportunity to uncover unresolved emotions and explore the source of your anxiety and panic, it’s likely that you’ll discover the coping mechanisms needed to manage stress.

We at Healing Springs Wellness Center have seen the positive effect that therapy can have on individuals longing to overcome panic and anxiety, and in fact, we have observed symptom reduction in many of our clients after just a couple of sessions. Our compassionate, solution-focused, and transparent approach puts you in the driver’s seat of anxiety treatment, so that you can forge the path ahead towards healing and transformation.

FAQ

Learn to understand your anxiety while moving beyond your fears, unhelpful behaviors, and life stressors

Are you constantly anxious? Do you feel like your anxiety is getting in the way of your ability to live a full life? You deserve to live a life free of constant worry and fear. Take the first step toward relief and schedule a consultation with one of our Trauma-Informed Therapists.

It’s possible to overcome symptoms of panic and anxiety yourself, but it’s harder to do it alone than with the guidance and perspective of a therapist or counselor. A professional not only provides emotional support but also promotes accountability in getting you to practice healthy behaviors and strategies for stress reduction. Exercises like deep breathing, visualization, and relaxation techniques, among others, are difficult to integrate into your daily practice without the help of a therapist or counselor.

Anxiety and panic are different but related. Anxiety is usually characterized by a general sense of fear or stress, whereas panic takes the form of acute physical symptoms related to anxiety. Sensations like shortness of breath, chest pain, and a fear of dying often accompany panic attacks, which are highly intense manifestations of anxiety.

As with any mental health disorder, there is an active and ongoing process of finding relief. Fortunately, anxiety and panic are things that you can learn to manage and navigate using the proper toolbox. Having these lifelong skills may not completely nullify the potential for anxiety in the future, but they will certainly prevent recurring symptoms from being as long-lasting or disruptive as they are now.
